A Journey of Human - Centred problem solving.
Working in various roles across customer operations opened my eyes to the power of good design. While helping users navigate through frustrations in the product, I realised I wanted to fix these problems at their source rather than just guide people through them.
During my time at MyTutor, I had a pivotal realisation: our complex tutor onboarding process was losing talented educators before their first lesson. This wasn't just about lost revenue – it was about students missing out on potentially life-changing educational experiences. This moment ignited my passion for design that puts users first – design that removes barriers instead of creating them, while pragmatically balancing user needs with business realities.
Great design finds that sweet spot where user success and business goals align.
What fascinates me about design is its unpredictability. You might think you know exactly how users will interact with your design, only to be completely surprised – and that's the magic of it. My background in customer operations taught me to back design decisions with solid data while maintaining empathy for the human experience. I've spent countless hours guiding users through complicated processes, witnessing firsthand how something obvious to one person can be completely missed by another.
As a certified yoga teacher, I've found surprising parallels between adapting instruction for diverse ability levels and creating inclusive design solutions. Both require careful observation, flexibility in approach, and an understanding that there's rarely a one-size-fits-all solution. This mindset helps me stay centred during complex challenges and tight deadlines.
My design philosophy focuses on simplicity and storytelling, with a keen interest in AI-driven experiences. I believe the best design often goes unnoticed – it simply feels natural. I'm not afraid to take calculated risks and learn quickly, approaching each challenge with curiosity and openness.
After all, design isn't just about solving problems – it's about understanding the humans behind them.
